Friends of Union County Library

Minutes, April 16, 2008

Respectfully Submitted by Judith Vaughn, Secretary

Jeanie Bullock, president, called the meeting to order.

The February minutes were approved as read.  Notes taken by Fran Scanlon-Sills at what-should-have-been-and-wasn’t the March meeting were read.  Many, many thanks to Fran for being there and taking the notes.

Treasurer Miki Rice reported $6,189.67 in the CD, $3,655.26 in checking, and $462.45 in savings.  Funds during the past month have been spent for the summer reading program and staff appreciation.  Renewal of our membership in Friends of Georgia Libraries was tabled for further thought and discussion.

Librarian Susie Brendle gave us more information about iPause, the software program for MP3 downloads the library system is having installed.  The group agreed to donate $100 to help pay for the program.

Fran, Membership, said there are 138 new and renewed memberships for 2008.  Judy Baldwin and Barbara Hale volunteered to draw up a list of membership selling points for posting in the library.

Elizabeth Patton has volunteered to take Carole Maddox’s place as newsletter editor.

Judy Shaner, Staff Appreciation, brought in a supreme lemon cream cake for the library staff.

Barbara reported that Roadway Sign Company has generously updated the Trash and Treasure Sale banner at no charge and has donated a terrific Friends of the Library banner.

Sign-up sheets were passed around for work shifts before and during the Sale.  Christian Love Ministries will accept and haul away the items that don’t sell.

Joanne Olson says that there is almost half a mile of donated pennies in the “A Mile of Pennies” fundraiser.

Steve Olson has done extensive pre-planning for a fundraiser auction, to be held tentatively on Saturday, October 18.  After discussion of the commitment and large number of volunteers needed to implement a quality auction, a motion to have it passed.

The group complimented Steve, Joanne, and Barbara on their fundraising creativity, enthusiasm, and energy.  Wow!

Postponing to 2009 the idea of a cookbook fundraiser, the meeting was adjourned.
