MEMBERSHIP
by Fran Scanlon-Sills
A warm welcome to all our new members this year! Thank you for supporting your wonderful library.
As most of you have seen, our annual drive kicked off with a renewal notice in the October bill from Blue Ridge Mountain EMC in addition to the notice in the last newsletter. The response has been truly gratifying with over half of last year's members renewing to date and many new  folks joining up to swell the ranks.
Membership is always important, but with the continually decreasing support from state and federal sources, the dollars we raise through membership fees have become an important contribution to the library funding. We are also able to help out with some of the little extras that make our library special. Check out the Pattie Hamilton Reading Nook and the Pat Scott Kid's Corner; watch for the upcoming installation of the new, updated computers which were partially paid for by Friends of the Library. The on-going Books for Babies program is a fund-matching endeavor supported by membership fees. (See the Treasurer's Report to check out in more detail where distributions have been made.)
If you have renewed your membership already: Thank you! If not, send your check today before you forget. And thank you, too!

Holiday Luncheon a Success
by Jane Thompson

 Ms. Thompson,
I would like to say a big "Thank You" to you and to all the officers and committee chairs for the lovely
luncheon I had the privilege of attending today. The food was excellent, the book exchange was a great
idea, and most importantly a fun time was had by all in attendance.
 Linda Garrett

The above email message from a member of FOL was sent to me after our Holiday Luncheon Wednesday, December 15 at Monet's. I think Linda summed up our joyful event perfectly. It was truly a day for book lovers. As social chair I am usually too busy to enjoy the socials but not this luncheon! It was fun getting to know newer members of FOL and more about older members as everyone told something interesting about themselves during the introductions. Our meal was served to us, no clean up, and we walked away with an interesting book to read over the holidays, plus all of us getting to know each other a little better.

The door prize, a gift certificate donated by The Book Nook, was won by Teresa Dorton of United Community Bank The second door prize was a tree ornament won by Shirley Brackett.

Many thanks to Miki Rice, Jeanie Bullock, Jean Craig, Judy Shaner, and Judy Vaughn for helping make this one of our best attended affairs this year.
