The Butternut Creek Festival
By Judith Vaughn

Our membership table at the Butternut Creek Festival on August 10-11 was a success.  We obtained one new and one renewed membership, sold $39.00 worth of raffle tickets for the Pashmina shawl, chatted with other book lovers, heard some foot-tappin' good country music, and affirmed our presence in the community as advocates of the library.

The winner of the shawl was Mr. Gene Kopec of Franklin, North Carolina.  He was notified by phone, and the shawl was mailed to him.

Thank you, Colleen and Bill Wilkinson, Jane Thompson, Judy and Gordon Shaner, Jean Craig, Ken Johnson, and Pat Scott, for taking shifts at the membership table!

BOOK MAGAZINE
by Pat Scott

For every new or renewed membership at the donor ($50) or above level, Friends will provide a free subscription to BOOK magazine (a $29.70 value.)

BOOK will bring you news and stories about authors at home and at work, publishing news, trends and issues, and new technological developments affecting books. You will find excerpts, essays, and fiction by leading writers for both adults and children, and new voices in the field. Plenty of book reviews, too... more than 50 in every issue!

This is a great tool to support reading and readers in our community, certainly a goal at the heart of our Friends group.

Please consider upgrading your membership, if you have not already done so. We will provide you with a coded voucher that you fill out and return to the magazine (postage paid) to begin your subscription.

A sample copy of the magazine will be available at the library desk for you to review. Happy reading!
