BOOKS FOR BABIES PROGRAM

THE 50% CONNECTION!
50% of a child’s intellectual development takes
place between birth and four years

Since 2001 Friends of Union County Library has proudly participated in the national program of BOOKS FOR BABIES by presenting each newborn at Union General Hospital with a packet of books and literacy information.  This year a new tradition will begin as we continue to promote early reading in our local community.  Instead of distributing materials at the hospital, Friends of Union County Library will host an annual Books for Babies Party each April.

At the Books for Babies Party, early reading materials will be given only to babies born to Union County residents.  Each infant will receive a special gift and his or her first library card.  Bring your children and enjoy refreshments, enter prize drawings, and receive important early reading information.

In order to be invited to this year’s party, the child must be born to a Union County family between January 1, 2009 and April 2010.  Please complete the information form below or sign up at the library so the Friends may send you an invitation to the Books for Babies event.  Your information will not be shared with any other businesses or organizations.

Congratulations on the addition to your family and we look forward to seeing you in April.

What is Books for Babies?

BOOKS FOR BABIES is a literacy program that acquaints parents of newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children.

By verbalizing and beginning to read to babies in infancy and becoming regular library users, parents jump-start children’s learning processes and their ability to read.

Books provide the key to education.
