President's message: |

I recently heard the statement that "Life is a work in progress," and I have begun thinking of that term in connection with our own library. Indeed, from a collection of donated books housed in an office in the old courthouse many years ago, then to a single room in the Civic Center when that facility was built - then in 1989 the bank building was purchased for what is now our full-service public library - truly a WORK IN PROGRESS. But it must not stop there. Anyone who uses our facility understands that we are becoming very crowded - and that we must begin looking to the future. And exactly what that will be - an entirely new library, or expansion of our existing building - we cannot know at this time. What we do know, however, is that when that time comes we need to be ready. Not construction funds, of course. That is up to the state and county. What we will need at that time will be new shelves, new books, and possibly new furniture. |

Your F.O.L. Board recently voted to establish a "New Library Fund" to begin preparing for those needs. Certain funds will be set aside, such as proceeds from memorial shelf plates (outlined in another article in this newsletter). Hopefully we will be ready to meet the challenge of progress. |
