Membership News
by Fran Scanlon-Sills

Okay, Friends, it's time to give yourselves a great big pat on the back. Membership for this year is almost double what it was this time last year (220 vs. 113). But we are still waiting to hear from about seventy-six folks who have misplaced their renewal slips. With that in  mind, we have included special memory joggers for you with this  newsletter. We miss you and hope to see you again soon! There are many projects in the planning stages for this coming year  and we invite all to join us in helping to make them each a great success. Everybody has something at which they excel. Come and share your expertise, especially if it is a happy smile to brighten our next meeting.

If you are a new Friend: Welcome!
If you are a continuing Friend: Thanks!
If you are a forgetful Friend: HELLO-O-O-O!!!

Library Day News...
by Jane Thompson

On January 31, nine people from the Mountain Regional Library System attended Library Day at the 2005 Legislative Session in Atlanta. The group was able to see all the legislators from our counties and they appeared very interested and supportive. We are very fortunate to have the interest, concern, and support of our Representative, Charles Jenkins, who wrote a very informative report that appeared recently in the local newspapers on the state of the libraries and the budget . (If you missed that article, the library has some extra copies.) Teresa Haymore, Director of the Mountain Regional Library System stated, "Today we are facing a 3% cut and we had hoped that would be restored this session. We will know more about that toward the end of the final session."

Meanwhile, Teresa advises us to keep contacting and writing our elected officials to let them know how important it is that the budget increase be restored and how important the library is to our community.
Union County Public Library
Was Closed for Painting
Union County Public Library was closed Friday, March 11, through Saturday, March 19, to be painted. As you remember, back in November 2002, the library suffered extreme water damage when the  roof was being repaired. We had been very busy replacing damaged books and carpet for the past three years. It was now time to paint the walls that had suffered a lot from water damage.

So if you haven't visited the your library lately, do so now and see her in  her new finery.
