FOUCL
Bi-Monthly E-Newsletter
Greetings!
The Friends are starting something new –
a brief newsletter sent out every other month
It will
be one page and have an update on
what’s going on with our organization from me, something from Susie when she
has news, and include other items of current interest. If this seems to work
out, it will continue, but only be sent electronically to those who gave us
their email addresses when they became members, and be available to all others
at the library or on our website, www.foucl.org.
If you haven’t heard, we have been the
recipients of a very generous bequest of $20,000 from Deloris Michael, whom you
may have known as a resident of Blairsville. The board, in consultation with
Susie Brendle, our Union County librarian, is in the process of determining how
to spend the money. We’ve had many interesting ideas that we will be sharing in
the next few months – check out your monthly meeting minutes for details.
Susie
had some amazing news for us at the meeting on February 20. She reported that the
total circulation in the Mountain Regional Library System in the previous
quarter was 84,919 items, of which Union County checked out 42,129 of those,
almost 50%.They also served almost 30,000 patrons. No wonder they thought they
were busy! The staff is currently working on the Summer Reading Program, which
the Friends funds in part.
If ever there was a time you considered
volunteering for FOUCL, we need you now. The Friends are struggling to fill
board and chairperson positions. We did not have a volunteer to be secretary
this year after Jack Waters left to devote his time to veterans organizations. Give
it some thought and give me a call at 706-781-6405. Serving your community by
supporting the library is a worthy endeavor that I think you will enjoy.
At the meeting on March 20, we will be
taking a vote on amendments to the organization’s By-Laws. If you’re
interested, take a look at the changes being recommended – a copy is available
behind the circulation desk – and let one of us know what you think.
When you get your next E-newsletter in
two months, we will be getting ready for our 2013 raffle, with a prize that
tops last year’s, if possible. I’ll keep you posted as Joanne Olson completes
it. We’re hoping to be accepted as one of the Butternut Creek Festival vendors.
More in two months!
