2013
Greetings!
For the
past two months, our fundraiser extraordinaire, Joanne Olson, has been working
diligently to put together our 2013 Raffle with goodies like you wouldn’t
believe, including an Apple iPad 4. FOUCL has been accepted as a vendor at the
Butternut Creek Festival, held on July 20 – 21, and this is one of the places where
we will be selling raffle tickets, which will first be available around May 20 at
the library. There will be two drawings on October 21 this year, one for the
iPad and a handmade lap quilt and one for a handmade magazine basket filled
with gift certificates worth over $800 from local merchants. As you might
imagine, we’ll be looking for volunteers to help with ticket sales – whether at
the Butternut Creek Festival, the Farmers Market, or at some other venue.
The Friends
voted at our last meeting to have our next book sale in 2014, on May 1 – 3. As
we did in 2012, the Thursday afternoon sale will be open to members only, with
light refreshments. We will also have a bake sale that Friday and Saturday. We
will start collecting books in January 2014 and continue until the first of
April, then spend some time sorting and getting ready to set up in the
Community Room at the library where the sale is held. SAVE YOUR BOOKS TO
DONATE, PLEASE!
Susie
Brendle, the Union County librarian, is busy these days getting ready for the
kids’ summer reading program. The theme, according to Susie, is “Dig in to
Reading.” There will be hands-on gardening as well as a visit by Smokey the
Bear.
We look
forward to seeing you at our next meeting, as always on the third Wednesday of
every month.
